FAQ

what is the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

A registered dietitian must earn a collegiate degree, complete 1,200+ supervised practice hours via a competitive internship, pass a national standardized exam, complete 75+ continuing education credits every 5 years while in practice, and maintain licensure specific to their state requirements. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, even without having completed training in the field.

what exactly is an anti-diet dietitian? I thought dietitians were trained to help people lose weight!

More and more research is coming out that indicates the majority of people who intentionally restrict calories to lose weight end up gaining the weight back, plus more than where they originally started. When people go through phases of losing weight, then gaining it back it is called weight cycling and this has shown to contribute to poorer health outcomes than if someone has a higher stable body weight. An anti-diet dietitian will explore eating behaviors, attitudes/beliefs towards food, body image, and nutrition myths that may be keeping someone stuck from pursuing a healthier and more joy-filled life.

What is the difference between a registered dietitian (RD) and a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)?

These can be used interchangeably, anyone who completes the requirements necessary to hold the RD credentials can also use the RDN credential. It is based on practitioner preference.

what can i expect at our first meeting?

At our initial consultation, you can expect 60-minutes of my undivided attention on you! I will ask you to tell me about yourself, how you would describe your current relationship with food, how do you think your attitudes/beliefs around food came to be, what you are seeking when working with me, what has your experience been working with dietitians in the past and much more! My hope is that this will not feel like an interview, but rather a conversation over a cup of coffee. This is an opportunity to explore if moving forward with more sessions will be a good fit for you in this season of your life.

do you provide weight loss services?

In short, no I do not. However, I can understand why some people may have been led to believe that their body needs to be “fixed” in order to lead a healthier life due to the thin ideal society portrays. If you hold onto the idea that you need to lose weight to be worthy of better health, your dream job, a relationship, etc., you are not alone. If you are open to hearing more about other ways to improve upon your health and self-image in your here and now body, I would be happy to explore that with you!

This is a frequently asked question?

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
